Indianapolis, IN – June 13, 2017 – Indianapolis-based  Nine13sports  has announced a programming partnership with Indy Parks & Recreation for the summer of 2017. This marks the first partnership between the two organizations, and the first major expansion of Kids Riding Bikes summer programming since the growing Central Indiana nonprofit began working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indianapolis in 2012.

“Having Nine13sports bring their renowned Kids Riding Bikes program to us is a tremendous opportunity for the kids we work with,” said Indy Parks & Recreation Director Linda Broadfoot.  “Nine13sports has such a unique way of engaging with youth , and that is going to make them such a great addition to our summer programs. We are very much looking forward to growing this partnership as we move forward.”

Programming is slated to begin on June 26th of this year at the Christian Park Family Center and run through the end of July. For more detailed information contact the Indy Parks & Recreation office at 317-327-PARK (7275) or via email at indyparksCS@indy.gov.

Nine13sports Wins $125,000 Grant from Lids Foundation

Nathan Wilson : April 27, 2017 10:50 am

Indianapolis, IN ─ April 27, 2017 ─ Nine13sports has announced their win in the 2017 Lids Foundation Tip the Hat Grant Contest bringing the organization the $125,000 grand prize. This will allow Nine13sports to continue to meet further demand in Central Indiana as well as bolster efforts in the new expansion city of Minneapolis, Minnesota later this year.

“The significance of winning the 2017 Tip the Hat Award cannot be overstated,” said Nine13sports CEO Tom Hanley. “To continue our long-standing partnership with The LIDS Foundation and LIDS as the 2017 Tip The Hat Award winner is humbling and extremely exciting. We have continued to work more and more with this great organization since 2014 and this win will help take an already great partnership to the next level. To be able to expand to not only meet ever growing demand here in Central Indiana, but also have The LIDS Foundation as a part of our expansion into Minneapolis is huge for our organization.”

To date, the partnership has allowed Nine13sports to serve 20 schools and serve more than 3,000 youth. This grant award will allow Nine13sports to serve an additional 10,000 youth over the next 12 months between both markets.

“Nine13sports was a finalist in the 2016 Tip the Hat grant contest and ultimately finished in third place,” said Hanley. “After going through the process once, we learned a lot. This year, my staff and I personally visited stores in 6 states to talk with their staff and called more than 300 stores across the country to connect with their employees, thank them for the work they do that helps make the Foundation thrive, and to share with them what Lids Foundation means to us. Our ground game during this process was extensive and exhausting, but it gave us a chance to help put a face to our brand as the employees went through their voting process to select the winner.”

“We couldn’t be happier to see Nine13sports win Tip the Hat to continue our partnership in 2017,” said Bailee Reynolds of Lids Foundation. “We had so many deserving organizations in this contest, and we can’t wait to see the impact they all make in 2017, especially Nine13 as our winner. With how closely our missions align we are thrilled to be able to continue this partnership in new ways.”

This award will allow to Nine13sports to continue to meet the demand for their unique bicycle based programming to students across Central Indiana, as well as helping to provide further expansion in the newest market of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Minneapolis team will officially launch operations this fall serving schools and students in the local metro area.

Indianapolis, IN ─ March 21, 2017 ─ Nine13sports has received a $300,000 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. to expand Kids Riding Bikes program offerings in three school districts in central Indiana. This comes as Nine13sports continues to grow to meet the high demand for its innovative bicycle based education programs and services.

This grant will enable Nine13sports to bring its programs to 40 schools per year four times each over the next two years and allow for 40 community events and programs to also be served. This will include 30 IPS Schools as well as new opportunities for schools within Washington, Pike, and Lawrence townships. The estimated impact over the next two years of this partnership includes serving 20,000 individual youth as Nine13sports works to not only create a more fit and healthy generation of youth, but to build self-esteem, confidence, and an understanding of teamwork.

Nine 13 promotes health, wellness and exercise for local youth between the ages of 5 and 18 through the Kids Riding Bikes program, which it launched in 2012 in central Indiana schools and community organizations. The Kids Riding Bikes program integrates the traditional bicycle with technology and video enhancement to simulate a real-time cycling experience in a safe environment.

More than 70 percent of Nine 13’s student participants are eligible for federally subsidized free or reduced lunch programs, and many of the youth have never had the opportunity to be on a bicycle. Tom Hanley, Nine 13’s chief executive officer, calls bicycles the “great equalizer” that can put youth of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds on relatively even ground. In addition to improving participants’ health and fitness, the program is designed to promote community, teamwork and mutual respect.

“We could not be more excited for what this grant will mean for Nine13sports and the kids we are privileged to serve daily,” Hanley said. “It’s no secret we have a long waiting list of schools hoping to receive Nine13sports programming, and this will help us continue to grow and meet that demand. We are excited to utilize the opportunity this significant grant presents as a catalyst to expand in central Indiana, and to further engage the philanthropic community, as well as the corporate community, as we strive to get more Kids Riding Bikes.”
