Building Bikes Lab
While we will always offer mobile based programming throughout central Indiana, we also work with youth in a multipurpose programming space located in our headquarter facility in the Near Northwest neighborhoods.
The Bike Lab is primarily used for our Kids Building Bikes program that introduces STEM concepts, teaches mechanical aptitude as well as a wide array of other transferrable employability skills such as problem solving, self-confidence, perseverance, and teamwork. Graduates of this program will not only develop these essential skills but also earn a brand-new bike, set of tools, helmet, and lock.
Additionally, we use the Bike Lab as a studio where kids can ride our Kids Riding Bikes multi rider simulator and explore many lessons related to the physical and mental health benefits of aerobic exercise. It also serves as the launch point for ExploreIndy rides that head out to explore the many trails and greenways found near our facility.
When not in use for our programming, the Bike Lab is converted into meeting space and used by our partners and other neighborhood organizations who are dedicated to making Indianapolis better. This multipurpose design allows this space to far more than a Bike Lab. Rather, this design allows the space to be a tool for the neighborhood and its’ leaders to help create positive and lasting impact.
Whether used to teach youth through the power of the bicycle or by community leaders coming together to exchange ideas, this space is an investment designed to facilitate ongoing efforts to create positive and lasting impacts to our neighborhood.
