Communications & Marketing Internship

Nine13sports is looking for three energetic and self-motivated individuals to join our team for the fall semester. We will be offering positions in three areas that will allow prospective students to apply for a position that best fits their major and field of interest, with the understanding they will be spending their time with us learning and being involved in all aspects of our organization.

About Nine13sports:

Nine13sports® is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that promotes health, wellness, and exercise for local youth with our Kids Riding Bikes®, Kids Building Bikes®, Kids Riding Bikes- STEM, and Explore Indy programs.

We have created a unique initiative in which we have integrated the traditional bicycle with technology to provide a turnkey product for youth programs, schools, and other community organizations. In addition to a core focus of health and fitness, our programs promote community, teamwork, and mutual respect for one another designed to foster a lasting impact.

Internship Details:

The spring internship program will begin on Monday, January 11th, 2021 and will conclude on Friday, April 30th, 2021.

  • Office location is on the near west side of Indianapolis.
  • Internship hours will be 12-14 hours a week, 2 days a week. 1 days will be on a programming site and the other day will be in the office.
  • There will be a few evening and weekend events that you will be notified of beforehand.
  • Stipend to be paid at the completion of the internship.

What You’ll Do:

  • Update and maintain a strong social media presence utilizing the social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & Twitter.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Communications Director to create tangible and engaging multimedia content.
  • Assist in drafting communications materials including press releases, briefing documents & meeting agendas.
  • Collaborating with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications.
  • Provide ongoing support and assistance to the Communications & Marketing Departments as needed.
  • Assist with our Kids Riding Bikes program by assisting with the program administration, such as equipment setup and tear down, the coordination and facilitation of the program, engaging with teachers and students in a positive and stimulating way, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Who You Are:

  • Interested in pursuing a career in Communications, Marketing, and/or PR.
  • Available to commit to a semester-long internship, upon start date.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Social media savvy with experience using Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and with accuracy.
  • Currently enrolled in 4-year university pursuing a degree in one of the related fields: English, Journalism, Media Studies, Political Science, International Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing Communications & any field related to Communications and Marketing.

Partnership & Business Development Intern

  • Plan approaches and pitches by working with the Chief Partnerships & Strategy Officer to develop proposals that speak to the partner’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Engage in prospecting activities to identify appropriate contacts, build lists, and qualify and drive leads through the sales pipeline.
  • Write, edit & draft grant applications, contract proposals, and any other documents related to the business of Nine13sports.
  • Provide ongoing support and assistance to the Chief Partnerships & Strategy Officer as needed.
  • Assist with our Kids Riding Bikes program by assisting with the program administration, such as equipment setup and tear down, the coordination and facilitation of the program, engaging with teachers and students in a positive and stimulating way, and other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Interested in pursuing a career in business, sales, business economics & nonprofit management.
  • Available to commit to a semester-long internship, upon start date.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and with accuracy.
  • Currently enrolled in 4-year university pursuing a degree in one of the related fields: Business Administration, Sales, Economics, or other related field.

Program Operations Intern

  • Coordinate Kids Riding Bikes programming, including operations, scheduling, logistics, customer service, and other key components of the program.
  • Contribute to Nine13sports website, social media, and multimedia content by crafting a message that can be delivered in a visually appealing and tangible way.
  • Facilitate and assist with event operations by executing pre and post event marketing and communications, on-site execution and decision making, positively promoting our brand outside of the school setting and interacting with the public as a representative of Nine13sports.
  • Analyze and modify data collection methods and develop new ways to capture data.
  • Assist with the administration and implementation of our Kids Riding Bikes program, such as equipment setup and tear down, the coordination and facilitation of the program, engaging with teachers and students in a positive and stimulating way, and other responsibilities as assigned.

Who You Are:

  • Interested in pursuing a career in professional teams or collegiate athletic departments, sport facilities and event management & operations management.
  • Available to commit to a semester-long internship, upon start date.
  • Strong writing and communications skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and with accuracy.
  • Currently enrolled in 4-year university pursuing a degree in one of the related fields: Sport Management, Exercise Science, Public Health, or any other related field.
