Our entire team here at Nine13sports is thrilled to announce that we have been named as a 2020 Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis Change Maker finalist in the Education category. Founded in 2006, Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis is a 501(C)(3) charitable women’s giving circle dedicated to awarding high impact grants totaling $100,000 to at least one nonprofit annually. This amazing group of women seeks to fund critical needs, new ventures, and innovative ways to solve social problems and to create a more civil and respectful climate in our community.
Our innovative and engaging programs use the bicycle as an educational tool in schools and community centers to teach an array of subjects that align with state educational standards. Kids Riding Bikes uses a multi rider bicycle video game to teach the physical and mental health benefits of aerobic exercise. Kids Building Bikes introduces STEM lessons and emphasizes essential employability skills like self-confidence, problem solving and perseverance. ExploreIndy rides turn the city into a history classroom as we take casually paced bike rides through our community, pausing our pedals at storytelling stops along the way.
If selected as the Change Maker grant recipient, our proposed project will allow us to expand our three programs to serve over 5,000 students who reside and go to school in the Near Northwest neighborhoods of Indianapolis. We will not only be able to take these mobile programs to the students, but we will also utilize the newly constructed classroom in our headquarter facility located right here in the neighborhood. You can learn more about our story, our programs, the new classroom and how we pivoted our service to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic at the links below!
