Wow, what an amazing event Indy Criterium was!.  Jen and Paul Cvar deserve huge applause for the great event they put on and we hope that it brought much success to our partners over at Freewheelin’ Community Bikes.  Our whole staff has been involved on every side of a cycling event from being coaches, athletes, race directors, logistics support, officials and all the other hats and we know how hard it really is to host a successful event.  Indy Criterium should be what other events strive to recreate every single weekend.

Laid out just as it would have been anywhere else

Looking at the numbers over the past day and a half and all the data we have and we’re thrilled what the turnout we had.  Final tally puts us right at 181 people coming through from the ages of 7-70.  As a total we tracked 547 separate rides and the total riders combined distance was 109.4 miles.

We got to see some previous Nine13sports participants from earlier in the year and meet their families.  We had the company of Pacemates Chelsea and Courtney for part of the afternoon and they even wound up doing awards for the Masters racers as stand-in podium girls!

Coach Ken providing instruction

The biggest help of the day and shout-out goes to Lauren Hanley and Larra Overton who were two of the best volunteers we could have asked for as they gave up their whole Saturday and helped us out with anything and everything.

Lauren (left) and Larra (right) made sure they got in a bit of a workout even if it wasn’t their normal run together!

And we can’t forget our special VIP kids of the day.  Voted as some of the coolest kids around on a unanimous top secret ballot of Nine13sports staff these boys hung out all day and were awesome to have around.  They even got the luxury of keeping the super secret VIP pass that puts them on the red carpet at any Nine13sports event!

Best. VIP’s. EVER.

Coach John wasn’t able to be there as he was coaching a junior athlete out in Trexlertown, PA for track nationals.  While we missed having John kicking around with us the staff at Nine13sports sends a huge congrats out to a successful first track nationals campaign to Thomas Revard who is the son of our loyal bike shop sponsor Bill Revard over at The Bike Line.  We were graced with the presence of Bri Clark and her posse who made an appearance as she put up the fastest time on both the women’s results and was hot on the heels of Coach Tom and his return to the bicycle.

“Can I get a gear change?”

Our Celebrity Board consisted of a wide variety-elite cyclists, Nine13sports staff, Media Contacts, Pacemates and of course most importantly Gail D!

We are waiting on some of the other photographers from the day to get us pictures that are much better than our own but wanted to share with you a gallery of what we were able to capture throughout the day.  As we process some of them and find a few others that we love we’ll go to the normal photo blog layout and utilize them over the next few weeks.
