Nine13sports is excited to announce that Major Hospital in Shelbyville has expanded their partnership with Kids Riding Bikes in 2017 to include support for school programs and additional community events. The school programs marks the first footprint our nationally recognized Kids Riding Bikes program will have in Shelby County Schools since our partnership with the hospital commenced in 2013.
“Major Hospital has been a loyal partner of Nine13 for years and we’re excited that they’re committed to increasing the healthy and substantial impact our programming delivers to thousands of youth each year, ” said Tom Hanley, Founder & CEO of Nine13sports. “Our entire staff here at Nine13sports is looking forward to building upon our already sound relationship with the hospital and to get more kids on two wheels in Shelby County in 2017.”
This partnership will have an impact on the county in a number of ways, with the most visible being delivering our Kids Riding Bikes programs to more than youth at multiple schools for a once per week program session over the course of four weeks. The students will participate using Nine13sports stationary bicycle simulators within their physical education class during the school day. Additionally, Kids Riding Bikes will be visible at community events in partnership with Major Hospital, including the yearly “Get Healthy Here Farmers Market,” in July that we’ve been a staple at since 2014. This event is held to increase awareness about health and wellness for the citizens of Shelby County and highlights the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. Our partnership will provide a unique and innovative engagement opportunities for both youth and adults.
“Nine13sports has been a terrific partner with Major Health Partners as we work to prevent, reduce, and optimally manage chronic disease,” said Denise Holland, Coordinator for Healthy Shelby County. “Bringing Kids Riding Bikes to our schools not only involves them in energetic activity, but also engages them in a physical activity that can promote their well-being for a lifetime. A family and community night during Kids Riding Bikes school programs along with Nine13sports’ presence at the “Get Healthy Here Farmers Market” engages all ages in the joy and benefits of cycling.”
