INDIANAPOLIS ─ October 17, 2016 ─ Growing Central Indiana youth nonprofit Nine13sports is excited to announce that they have been awarded a generous and sizable grant from The Indianapolis Foundation, an affiliate of Central Indiana Community Foundation, that will benefit thousands of students at Indianapolis Public Schools.
“It’s with excitement to once again work with The Indianapolis Foundation to receive our second grant to bring our unique and interactive Kids Riding Bikes programming to 1,800 students at ten new Indianapolis Public Schools,” said Tom Hanley, Chief Executive Officer at Nine13sports. “The Indianapolis Foundation and CICF are committed to making Central Indiana a better place to live in and this grant will allow us to have more than 7,200 youth interactions with IPS students and to educate them on the importance of living a healthy and physically active lifestyle.”
In addition to integrating their multi-week programming into the schools physical education curriculum, Nine13sports will partner with IPS to serve the community at school health fairs, block parties, field days, and other select community events. As well as individual betterment of health and wellness, Kids Riding Bikes promotes community engagement, team-building skills, life skills, and gives students the opportunity to discover the value of bicycling in a fun and safe environment.
“Bicycling is a growing method of transportation, recreation, and sport in the Central Indiana region,” said Brian Payne, President and CEO of The Indianapolis Foundation and CICF. “We want to encourage the countless benefits and genuine enjoyment that the bicycle delivers, in addition to spreading the idea that the bicycle is one of the best ways to explore your surroundings, and we’re proud to partner again with Nine13sports to deliver that message.”
In the last year, Kids Riding Bikes has brought the health and self-confidence benefits of basic bicycle programming to more than 7,500 Central Indiana youth in school districts across Marion, Hendricks, Morgan, and Shelby counties.
