Nine13sports to Provide Programming for Indianapolis Public Schools 6.28.2012

Nine13sports Commits to Programming with Indianapolis Public Schools for New Year

Indianapolis, IN ─ June 28, 2012 ─ Nine13sports is excited to announce a new Program Partner upon the return of schools in August. The nonprofit organization has agreed to provide program curriculum for Indianapolis Public Schools’ Merle Sidener Gifted Academy.

Nine13sports will work closely with the school’s physical education teacher, Ted Scheck, to provide programs for students in grades 4 through 8.  The school will participate in Nine13sports’ “Multi Traks” curriculum which is offered to their premier Program Partners.  This curriculum includes six weeks of Nine13sports’ programs designed to complement the physical education programs already in place at the Sidener Academy.

Business Director of Nine13sports Tom Hanley said, “Ted Scheck contacted us after he read the Indianapolis Star’s article highlighting our organization.  His outreach helps us begin to realize our goal to integrate our programs with IPS.  It’s another win-win situation where Nine13sports will work with a school that strives to share the best educational opportunities for its students, and IPS utilizes our unique and effective turnkey programs for the betterment and well-being of those same students.”

Teacher Ted Scheck commented, “I often ride my bike to work and it tends to generate questions from my students.  They have some difficulty comprehending my willingness to bike a twelve mile commute to and from work.  In our discussions, they show increased interest as they ask questions and learn that it doesn’t take me much longer to commute by bike than by car, and discover the personal and environmental benefits in doing so.  I want that excitement, that engagement, to be more than just big eyes and questions about how far I ride my bike.  I want my students to ride a bike, get sweaty, tired and a little achy in the hamstrings.  I want them to experience something new and fun in my gym class.”

The Nine13sports programs will commence at the Sidener Academy in mid-August.  This curriculum is designed to incorporate students in grades 4 through 8 during their physical education class.  IPS and its Sidener Academy are one of several new partners coming online to Nine13sports over the next several months.  John Singleton, Director of Operations for Nine13sports, said, “We are excited by our organization’s continued growth and ability to deliver a unique and effective educational experience for kids.  We remain highly motivated to share our passion for health and fitness as we schedule programs for our existing and new Program Partners throughout 2012.”
