Second Helpings
For more than 20 years, Second Helpings, Inc. has been transforming lives through the power of food by accepting donated perishable and overstocked food and preparing nutritious meals for thousands of hungry children and adults every day. Then they distribute these meals free of charge through local social service agencies in Greater Indianapolis
As they continue this mission during the pandemic, they have also coordinated efforts to prepare frozen meals for the home-bound seniors and households of families in quarantine that are unable to access the food they need. These prepared meals include both frozen and shelf stable options that are especially needed by those with limited refrigeration such as those living in motels.
As the community demand for these meals exceeded Second Helpings ability to deliver them, we’ve partnered together and are providing onsite storage at our facility as well as daily delivery service for the Indianapolis residents who have requested them.
This partnership serves home-bound seniors, some of them trying to care for grandchildren and even great-grandchildren, disabled veterans, and individuals returning from hospitalization who need support. All are getting access to the nutritious food they need to help them through this crisis.
