Our last 2016 summer intern reflection comes to you from Drew Gowan, who interned with us from Hanover College this summer. Check out a few of the things he learned while interning at Nine13sports!
I have had a decent amount of jobs thus far for being a 21-year-old, varying from working at Hanover College to being a “blizzard wizard” at Dairy Queen. But I can honestly say that my time here at Nine13 has been the best working experience yet and I have my incredible coworkers to thank for that.
So thank you to Tom, Ashley, and Chris. It’s been a great time. I have learned a lot since I have been here. I’m so glad to have had the opportunity to shadow Tom in business meetings so I could learn about the nonprofit side of business. Thank you for showing me that beginning your own startup company is very possible with hard work and dedication, even if you are somewhat winging it in the beginning. And also thank all of you for finally teaching me how to work ratchet straps (which is harder than you think!), that’s a skill that will forever be helpful!
To my fellow interns Claire, Michael, and Chris (who isn’t actually an intern but he’s one of us anyways), I want to say thanks for making each day at work enjoyable and fun. I have loved the constant banter we have amongst ourselves, and our bonding over Chris’s AWFUL jokes.
During my time here I have also learned that I really enjoy working with kids, even though they can be extremely difficult sometimes, it’s also very rewarding. Although I enjoy working with kids, I’m not positive if I would like to do something like this for the rest of my life, and that’s okay. During my time here I have also felt that I have found some direction in which I want to take my life after school and I am very thankful for that.
As my last week here winds down to an end I just want to wish Nine13sports and everyone involved the best in the future, I know they will do great things continually getting kids riding bikes!
Drew out.
