For Immediate Release – CranksgivingIndy is a bike ride, food drive and scavenger hunt wrapped into one fun, family-friendly event that will be held on Saturday, November 2 at the historic Indianapolis City Market.  Event check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. and the ride will commence at 10:30 a.m.

During the ride participants will purchase and gather food items they will bring back to City Market to be donated to MidNorth Food Pantry to support their efforts to provide food for those who reside in the largest food desert in the city of Indianapolis.

The ride is unusual in that prior to arrival riders only know they will be asked to ride approximately 5-20 miles as they gather food.  Once riders arrive on event morning they will be told the checkpoint locations where they gather the food and riders will map their own route to reach each location.  There is no pre-defined route to the checkpoints, so along the way participants are free to explore urban Indianapolis using the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, bike lanes and paths through the city.

Nine13sports staff will be on hand to assist riders in creating their routes. Checkpoint options will be available for families riding with children as well as for experienced cyclists.

CranksgivingIndy is one of over 60 Cranksgiving rides were held across the United States.  The last CranksgivingIndy ride was hosted by ActiveIndy Tours & Events and brought together 100 riders that collected over 500 pounds of food.

Event information and online registration can be found at www.cranksgivingindy.com.  Registration is $20 per rider and participants will likely spend another $10-15 during the ride purchasing food.
